everyone, i know this blog is usually me just whining about my views on things and how much my life sucks or whatever, but i want to be serious for just a minute. i want to use this blog as a tool to get word out there, in whatever way i can. so i’m going to ask all of my followers to read and reblog this. it isn’t that much to ask.

seeing as the holidays are coming up, i think i might start somewhat of an awareness theme for this blog on sundays. christmas/hanukkah/other holidays are soon, and after a recent conversation, i’ve really started thinking. we are all really lucky people, whether we want to admit it or not. the fact that you’re sitting here reading this means you have a computer or some kind of internet. a lot of people don’t.

there are people who have no home, no family, and no one to share their holiday with. they live outside, in the freezing cold, snow, and ice. because they have nowhere to stay. homeless shelters only house so many people and feed so many people. there’s never enough room for everyone. i’m asking you to imagine yourself for five minutes living on the streets on christmas instead of sitting in your warm family room opening presents. it’s not a happy thought, is it? no one deserves that. no matter what they’ve done in their lives.

so. for every 20 reblogs that this post gets, i will donate a bag of food to some local homeless shelters in my area. for every 10 “likes” that it gets, i will donate $1.00 to a local charity or soup kitchen. let’s see what you tumblrers can do.

In light of my previous posting about Black Box, an interesting discussion flowed out of @freddyandeddy. Ian’s concern was that this new site is yet another “young and hot” social site. I couldnt help but agree and much of what he had to say was preaching to the choir.

It seems that the statusquo is also what is “marketable” to most of the human race. So, when I saw BBR’s commercial, I did have a bit of a knee-jerk reaction to all the young and hip that were used in the commmercial.

At one time, I could get more butthurt about a company’s choice of models/actors for thier TV show or commercial. Still, having been doubted based on a shallow first impression thing, I like to give things a chance.

In essence, my problem with current social networks is simple…..I have to compartmentalize my life in order to fit within the parameters and site policies of the given site.

Myspace — too many minors on it. Profiles are hard on the eye. I still get random spammers and people who want to collect a friends harem whom try to add me. My modeling photos…while not sexual contain nudity. Thats a no-no.

NING networks - Seperates us more than it brings us together. New policy as of earlier this year put the clamp on nudity (artistic or “porn”).

Facebook - Don’t get me started. This site is geared towards high school and college people, so they may keep in touch. Yes, everyone is on FAcebook. Just like Myspace, that means that I have to worry about potential employers locating me and criminilizing my “off work activities”.

Tribe.net - Dead as a doornail. Marc Pincus doesnt seem to care for the site has not improved and now everyone is gone. Whats the point?

FetLife - Love this site. I have met more kinksters like me. My only fault with it, is that it has a specific theme to it so it only is for expressing a mere component of my overall self.

Will BlackBox replace these and give me a network I can actually use? I am optimistic because I really need to find a place to exist online that doesnt cram me with labels, give me reason to have to hide things about myself, or is otherwise not a place for genuine connections.
